Author: Or computer software engineering. I know there are differences in them, just not sure. I want to be able to program video games using the c++ programming language, but if I hear if I were to get a degree in game and simulation programming, I wouldn’t be fit for jobs that need a computer science degree.
If I were to get a degree in computer science, would I still have the information to make games? Or vice versa.

No, as far as I know. Making games would be, well, making games, which having that information does not help knowing how to make or use computers.. The computer science would be constructing or working with computers. You know, configuring them, upgrade, fixing, equipment of those sort.
Computer Science is about coding and algorithms. You will be taught the basic languages like java, c++, html, etc, but most importantly, how to solve problems. If you take CS, you can in the end get any programming job out there. Web development, game development, software development, etc.
Game development focuses on game development. You’ll learn the appropriate language and how to make graphics and anything pertaining to gaming, but only that.
