7 Ways To A Better Web Site
Have a consistent "Feel"
The navigation of your web site needs to be easy. The layout needs to be consistant. There is not much more frustrating for a web site visitor than to click a link to go to another page and see an entirely different layout, with the navigation in a different place, a different background and different structure to the new page.
Imagine each time you walk into Wal-mart they have rearranged the store - thats what your doing to your web visitors by not having a consistent look and feel. The only difference - At Wal-mart, you can ask an associate where something is....on a website, generally the visitor will leave - to your competetions web site.
Have a reason for web site visitors to return
An offer - maybe a coupon, newsletter or frequently updated portion of your website. If you give your web site visitors a good reason to return, they will! Your web site will become a primary source that they use and they will refer other people to it.
Track your websites statistics
Having a website is great, having a great web site is awesome - and having a properly maintained great web site is where we get into building your business. Web site statistics can play an integral role in determining what sections need updating, if your marketing (both online and offline) are working.
Use graphics, but don't over do it
The adage of "A picture is worth 1000 words" rings true on the web. A good, high quality & relevent graphic is a great thing to have on a web site. But, it can easily spiral out of control. By putting too many graphics, by not resizing them properly you are making your visitors wait longer than they should.
Provide unique & relative content
One of the worst things you can do is have one 'feel' to your company, but your website speak to a different audiance. Your web site is a presentation of your company to potential customers. You should use it as a tool to set their expectations of the products and services you offer. Using very formal language on your website - but having a very casual atmosphere in person can be damaging - Essentially, use your website as you do all of your other marketing tools.
Easy to read text is a must
If your pages aren't easy to read.......they won't be read! Avoid crazy fonts, too bright of colors, too little contrast - it's easy to read dark letters on a lite background - no needs for much else there.
Keep it simple
Easy is paramount! The site should be motivating people to do what it is you built the site for - a purchase, to request more information, to have them call you - there are many reasons and methods for a web site - just remember to keep it simple and focused on the web site visitor easily "getting the point".
